Your career as a documentary maker starts with registering your own profile on FilmAngel.tv. Subscribers can win €5000 support from Canvas and a potential broadcast on Canvas. It’s worth a shot!

STEP 2

Complete your profile

As soon as you registered your profile, you can complete your profile to show what your worth. Don’t forget that pictures and a little movie tell a lot and are really important. Also, tell us who you are and what your documentary is about.

STEP 3

Convince the fans

FilmAngel.tv and Canvas are looking for promising documentary makers, who can convince the jury and the fans of their project. It is important to create a buzz.

To measure how the fans value your documentary, we created a Social Score. This Social Score is based on the amount of votes you receive on your profile, and your popularity on social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

STEP 4

Get Support

The top 10, will be determined based on the online votes and the buzz you create on social media. Next the professional jury will decide which documentary gets €5000 starting budget and which one gets broadcasted.

1 documentary will be selected and will be awarded €5000 with the possibility of being broadcasted on national television channel Canvas.

Canvas and FilmAngel.tv award €5000 to promising documentary makers

VRT, Canvas and FilmAngel.tv join forces to discover, encourage and support as many promising documentary makers as possible. Both want to give young filmmakers the chances they deserve.

Canvas wants to achieve this by supporting new documentary makers in a more fundamental, active, and engaged way. They want to invest in author documentaries by creating a special program ‘The Owl of Athena ‘ (‘De uil van Athena’). For this new program, that will broadcast national and international author documentaries, they are looking for promising documentary makers with an eager view on the world.

Twice a year we launch a call where young filmmakers can subscribe with their documentary. Each call, Canvas will award 1 documentary with €5000 starting budget and broadcasting. The additional budget can be raised through crowdfunding on FilmAngel.tv.

Canvas

Canvas is a high standard national television channel in Belgium and aims at people in search of information, analysis, and self-awareness. Canvas offers a broad, versatile, critical, but especially eager view on a world that is becoming more complex every day. It is the perfect guide for viewers with a broad interest who want to be informed of the latest news about current affairs, science, history, culture, drama, humor and sport.

Canvas puts the focus on innovation and creativity and aims for varied and surprising programs. It is a channel full of eagerness offering predominantly original and eye-catching programs. In this way Canvas hopes to promote a more creative and open society.

FilmAngel.tv

FilmAngel.tv, an innovative platform that wants to support young filmmakers, merges perfectly with the new documentary strategy of Canvas. FilmAngel.tv gives young directors and filmmakers the opportunity to realize their documentary or shortfilm. They achieve this by using the crowdfunding principle, where fans can support their favorite projects. Documentary makers can audition here to win the € 5000 starting budget. The selection of the projects happens in 2 ways. On the one hand we measure your social index, a score calculated on social media and emailvotes. On the other hand, a professional jury will select the winner based on predetermined selection criteria. The selection criteria can be found in the terms and conditions.
